Raptors rise to playoff hopes, plus NBA trade deadline buyers and sellers – The Athletic

It’s NBA trade deadline week! February 10 is the last day to trade in the NBA, which means every team has to look in the mirror. They must decide whether they are buyers or sellers by the deadline.

As we’ve discussed many times over the past year, the Play-In Tournament complicates the deadline, and teams with an honest answer about where they stand requires supreme self-awareness. More teams are in the mix. Just look at New Orleans, San Antonio, Sacramento and even Oklahoma City. All of these teams have had horrible seasons, and yet they are in contention for 10th place in the Play-In tournament.

This week, we’ll take a look at every NBA team and decide whether they should be buyers or sellers by the deadline. Whatever that answer is, we’ll try to figure out who should be moving for them if they’re moving. And, of course, we’ll rank them perfectly from 1 to 30 in a way that no reader/subscriber will argue against.

As a reminder, this season’s Power Rankings doesn’t just rank the 30 teams. We have divided these teams into tiers, which any of the teams can enter and leave throughout the season. Here are the six tiers that teams can belong to:

Rebuilding a Franchise – Undeniable.

Tired of rebuilding a franchise – They’re not trying to keep rebuilding, but they’re just not good enough to avoid it.

Play-In Tournament Brings Them To Life – Normally this team would head to Tank-a-palooza, but the Play-In Tournament keeps them alive.
